As always, I'll be striving to bring in more uses of technology, while remembering that there's nothing to compare with holding a loved book! Different people learn in different ways and I aim to provide a variety of experiences in the library.
One new program this year is the Adopt-a-Shelf program. Students can volunteer to adopt a shelf in the library. They will be responsible, respectful and safe in taking care of their very own shelf! Not only will they learn library information skills, they will have pride in a job well-done. Prizes will be awarded for the best-kept shelves, including "Book Fair Bucks" that can be spent at either of our two book fairs we have this school year!
Our Accelerated Reader program is changing a bit this year. Instead of class competitions, the individual student's aim will be to do his or her very best. The theme is Book Bingo. As students complete their bingo cards, they will be reading a wonderful variety of books. They will be discovering genres they may not have even thought about! Book Bingo is another way to win prizes, including Book Fair Bucks!
My goal is to help each student feel welcome and at home in this library. With the learning that takes place here, they should feel confident using ANY library they use in the future.
To the wonderful parents who were able to answer the call for volunteering in the library, THANK YOU! There is an incredible amount of work involved with keeping the library operating smoothly and implementing all the lessons and programs. You don't have to be a parent to volunteer. Grandparents, aunts, uncles and community members are welcome to get involved! See more information under the "Support The Library" tab on this site.
Check this blog often for more news about the Heritage Library. It is awesome-sauce, for sure!!
